Non-alcoholic fatty liver is the initial stage of liver disease, which at this point, is still reversible.

Left untreated, NAFLD can progress to NASH–Non-alcoholic Steatohepatitis. At this point, inflammation and fat begin to damage the liver cells, leading to scarring of the liver and ultimately, liver cirrhosis.
